If you hail from the Bangalore-Mysore area and happen to be missing home food while visiting San Francisco Bay Area, I have delicious news for you. There’s a place that serves Bisi Bele Bath, Set Dosa  and Thatte idli. Bangalore Cafe is the name of the restaurant and it is situated at 3077 El Camino Real in Santa Clara.

Bangalore Cafe has a spread of South Indian Dishes, Chaat and ice cream. However, This blogger highly recommends:

  1. Bisi Bele Bath
  2. Maddur Vada (that is served here. )

Also, if you like the kind of chaat you find on the streets of Bangalore and Mysore, this is your place. You’ll also find pretty good Badam Halwa here.

Situated off El Camino Real, Bangalore Cafe is situated just behind Aachi Appa Kadai. It is a plain-looking place and not very crowded, most of the time. The first time I was here, a big poster of Vidhan Soudha and smaller one of Annavru ( Late Kannada thespian Rajkumar) put a smile on my face.
Recently when we had friends visiting, we suggested this place for dinner one Saturday night and guess what my friend’s hubby said on tasting the Bisi Bele Bath — Sakkath aagide! And I second that. That’s one of the best Bisi Bele Baths I’ve ever had.

How to get there:
3077 El Camino Real
Santa Clara
CA -95051

(Remember: it is just behind Aachi Appa Kadai)

That Bisi bele bath is really good; better than that in some places in Bengaluru even 😉

Hi Divya… I have actually been there while visiting the area, I was soo dying to eat Desi food that I burnt my fingers on the hot sambhar in hurry. It was fun licking them 🙂

      Haha. Their Sambhar's nice.
Good place, right? Everything on their menu's pretty good but those two dishes really stand out. The Kannadigas will love this restaurant.
Lemme know when you come this side again, I'll tell you where you get all the good Desi food, Desi traveler. 🙂

Ah! That's amazing. Well being a Bangalorean, I feel proud reading this. 😀 I can imagine how you must have felt when you first discovered this restaurant, really nice to know. 🙂

Pic of Dr. Raj and Vidhana Soudha? Yay to that. 😀

Akshay, the Bisi Bele Bath here is something!!
We discovered (that's the right word, really) the place over a year ago and have been there several times, ever since. The place is almost hidden behind another restaurant but if somebody from Mysore/Bangalore went in there once, they'd definitely go there again and again. 🙂
A friend of mine and her hubby were here for a few months and they'd been to another place called Madras Cafe and when I told her let's go to Bangalore Cafe, she thought I was joking. 🙂 Her hubby had visited this area a few times but hadn't been to this restaurant.
I thought more people needed to know about this place; especially the Kannadigas who miss their Bisi Bele Bath. 🙂

You know we have so many such places in NY and NJ but the food doesn't taste like what we have in Bangalore. I miss South India. BTW, I have perfected the art of making idlis. I am so proud of myself 😛

There are a lot of Indians in the San Francisco Bay area, so there are 'so many' Indian restaurants around here. And many of them are really good. There's so much variety too; all kinds of Indian cuisines so nobody's missing home food, I'm sure 🙂
You make idlis? So cool. 🙂 We south Indians cannot do without Dosas and Idlis.
There are some places here where you get good idlis and Dosas too. They're popular places. Lemme know when you are visiting here, ok Saru?

I make good bisibelabath, says my husby and very recently, my parents told me that. But nothing like getting that flavor of Kopra on them. I don't have any such south indian restaurants here, unfortunately. I love Idli's but I am very bad at making them 🙁

You do? So cool, Anu. Lucky hubby of yours. 🙂
It's a disaster every time I've try making it; it gets too dry. Not that I've tried too many times, but I've almost given up.
      Thankfully, there's Bangalore cafe. 🙂

You miss idlis? Maybe you should try out my way.

Hey Jaish, long time. I hope you are doing well.
There's a lot of great Indian food here. There are quite a number of places serving idlis and dosas and biryanis.
This seems to be the only place that has proper Kannadiga food. And it's pretty good.
Now there's a place for superb Keralite food too. Should write about that sometime soon. It should be useful to the many Indians visiting the Bay Area.

Haudu, Kusum. 🙂 That Maddur vada — thumba channagide. Whether we go there to get some chat or have dinner, we make sure we bring back some Maddur Vada. And this one needs no chutney to go with it. 🙂

You do? I'm sure it's Yum. Mine always comes out dry, so I've almost stopped trying. But now I know where to go to get some great Bisi bele bath. 😉 Try it, the next time you're here, ok. 🙂
