Pristine Lake Tahoe

Have you looked at the colors of Lake Tahoe? Have you noticed the shades of blue of the largest alpine lake in North America? Learn about it, here. ...
Lake Tahoe - layers of blue

Lake Tahoe

It was the colours of Lake Tahoe that I found most fascinating. We first spotted the Lake from the mountain roads that led to South Lake Tahoe. The lake was several miles away but we could see a bluish green surface from the distance. However, when we were finally driving through Lake Tahoe Boulevard, we found that the blue and green were much more distinct than just the bluish-green colour we saw from afar.  From there we could see that it was green towards the banks and blue in the middle.

Lake Tahoe - layers of blue

Later when we were actually by its banks, we found that its colours and shades were even more  interesting. There was a little brown at the beach and then it got green. A little further away the lake became blue and got bluer towards the middle till it turned white, probably due to the sandy beach on the far bank on the other side. Completing this scene was the snowy mountain range that bordered this lake. Picture perfect!

Just look at this:

This lovely Lake , which lies in the Sierra Nevada is the largest of Alpine lakes (lakes above 5000 ft) in the whole of North America and the second deepest in the United States of America. The water here is so clear that you can see the sandy bottom where it is shallow. Check out the picture below and you will believe me.

They say this lake is as clear as it is, because of the extremely low temperatures here. Thanks to the coldness of the water in this high-altitude lake, the growth of algae is completely ruled out, keeping Tahoe blue and pristine.

It's amazing Sugato. It has several shades of blue. Yeah it's cold in the winter. These pictures are from last May (yeah, snow even in May :); the weather was pleasant during the day but the evenings were pretty cold.
Nice to see you here, Sugato :)Do come again. 🙂

It's a great place, Niranjan. We hope to visit this place again this winter, when it's at its snowy best. 🙂
      Thank you, Niranjan.

It really is a very beautiful place, Akshay. It's a great place to have a vacation home in. :)When we went on a cruise on the lake, I remember the captain pointing out some very famous homes around here.

They say both heaven and hell are here on the earth. Thank you for taking us to many heavens, Divya. As for hell, one simply needs to stand by the Mithi river in Mumbai. (Incidentally, 'Mithi' is the Hindi for 'sweet'.)

      So true, USP.

It's an absolute pleasure to show you these beautiful places. I'm so glad you like them. Don't you wish you could take your Nikon and go for a nice long walk along the lake? 🙂

Ouch! I just looked up some pictures. Now either the name of that river of the meaning of Mithi needs to be changed. The place is in a really sorry state.
