Honnavar and Sharavathi

Honnavar lies in Uttara Kannada in the state of Karnataka (in S. India). It is here that the Sharavathi River meets the Arabian Sea.

If you remember the post on Jog Falls, you might remember that it is the drop of the Sharavathi River that forms that waterfall that is quite a spectacle in the Monsoon months. When we visited Jog Fall in late October last year, I wished I could see where the river emptied itself, but that could not be worked into the itinerary.

Fortunately, later in the year, while were were road-tripping along the Karnataka coast, I got a few glimpses of Honnavar and the estuary of the Sharavathi. Here are a few shots from this coastal area:

Thank you so much, Prasad. I've got a few more pics (and posts) from the KA coast.
Yes, you have to see these parts and I'll show you what I think is the best part. 😉

Great shots Dee ! You have sort of mapped the river till end it seems. Sharavathi is a branch of Kaveri ? right now I am totally disoriented in sense of direction but i certainly enjoyed the pics and the prospect of visiting this place.. A great post again – un-touristy 😀 😀

Not really, but I really wanted to see the estuary. I didn't get to stop there too long, but I caught some glimpses. 😉
Nope. The Kaveri flows the other way and empties itself in the East. Some months back I mapped the Kaveri on Google maps and wished I could visit it where it meets the Bay of Bengal. Sometime, I hope…
      Thank you dear Kokila.
