Zooming In: Chamundi Hill

Mysore’s Chamundi Hills is one of the bigger attractions in this royal city. And the attractions on top of this hill include a statute of the demi-god Mahishasura, Chamundeshwari temple, a Nandi statue and sweeping views of Mysore from the top of the hill.

Mahishasura, Chamundi Hills
When you get to Chamundi Hill, you’ll have to get by this demon king first.

King Mahishasura.
He’s not caged. The scaffolding is a sign that Dussehra is around the corner (for, that was when we visited there, last) and the Asura is getting ready for a coat of paint.

Chamundeshwari is considered the guardian angel of the ‘City of Mysore.’ She is also said to be one of the chief deities of the Mysore Maharajas.

  1. Truly wonderful captures.. but how is it that you have managed to avoid the crowd… entirely !
The place is looking serene and calm which it certainly is 🙂 I specially liked the first look pic of the Temple and the pic of the offering samagri 🙂
The demon is Mahishasur I think ..

    1. I just avoided taking the crowds.
The offerings picture is one of my favourites too. Love the colours in it.
Yes, the demon is Mahishasura. 🙂

      Thank you, Kokila. 🙂

      Thank you, Kokila. 🙂

    1. I climbed down the hill once — took those 1000 steps down. When I was in college. It's fun when you have company.

Any place is your kind of place, Prasad. :)You'll get to take lots of great pictures up there. You should see the views from up there.

    1. Yeah, it is pretty majestic. I've been there before, but it was this time that I actually looked at that gopuram properly.
Thank you for stopping by, Yogi. 🙂
