A taste of ‘God’s Own Country’ in the Bay Area

Here in the San Francisco Bay area there is no dearth of Indian food. Take just south Indian food and you are spoiled for choice. Now, if you are looking for Keralite food the place to go is Red Chillies in Milpitas, CA.

When you have a craving for good Malabar Paratta (you know the proper, fluffy ones) Kerala style beef fry (with fried coconut on them), even Kappa-Meen curry (steamed tapioca with fish curry) this should be your destination.

On their menu you will find items like Meen Polichathu (baked fish), Avial, Theeyal, Appams even Puttu and Kadala curry among a wide variety of traditional Malayalee food. As such, it should come as no surprise if I tell you that this is the place we Bay Area Malayalees rush to when we miss home food. It is definitely one of the restaurants I’ll miss most when I move out of Silicon Valley — not just for the food but for many good memories with some really fun ‘Mallu frens’ 😉

As of now, this is where I would ask you to go if you want to try out Keralite food in the Bay Area.

From Red Chillies’ tables:

Kerala Paratta
Beef Fry

Poricha Kozhi (Chicken)
And if it is Onam or Vishu time, it’s not a bad place to treat yourself to some Sadya (The Grand Kerala feast).
