    1. That was a Lava tube, Lava flowed down the hill this way, around 500 years ago. But this Park is also home to the Kilauea Volcano that has been active since the early 1980s. Lava from this volcano has been flowing down the southern part of the island to this day. When we visited most of the lava flow was happening underground. New (smaller) eruptions keep happening from time to time. If you visit the post I've linked to this one, you can see a steaming crater.
      It was very exciting. 🙂

    1. Yeah, that was interesting. The whole of that Lava tube looks more-or-less like how is does in that picture. I read somewhere that this tube had some stalactites like things too, but they were removed and taken away for souvenirs :(.
There's a picture of the mouth of the Lave tube here https://dnambiar.com2011/09/volcano-tour-on-hawaiis-big-island.html. And a steaming crater too, if you'd like to see that.

You've got some fab photographs in your blog, Thomas. Damn good. 🙂
Thank you for coming by. 🙂

  1. Divya, you are a roving storehouse of information:) You write on unusual things which always capture my imagination! BTW , I tried to answer to your queries in the tag ! Hope you will get time to read!!

    1. Thank you so much, Mr. Bhatia. You make me want to write a whole lot more. This post leads you to the same post that you visited the other day; I'm having a busy week so just thought I'd pull out an old post.

I went through your post. Thank you for taking those questions; it's nice to know the blogger in you. Thank you, again.

    1. You should write about those places. I'd love to read about them, Bikram.

Thank you. 🙂 The lava tube was superb. If you go to the other post mentioned in this post, I've written in detail about how this tube is formed. And there are pictures of a steaming volcano and a steam vent. We didn't get to see red hot lava but the whole volcano tour was very enlightening.
