Jule Hus: It’s always Christmas here

Jule Hus: Solvang's all year round Christmas Store

Jule Hus: all year round Christmas Store in Solvang

Christmas isn’t until another six months but there’s a place in Solvang in California where it is Christmas all year round. Be it February or August, there’ll be Christmas trees and ornaments and Santas and elves and all types of decor at Jule Hus.

Jule  Hus

Jule Hus is a Christmas store on Mission Drive in the city that is also known as the ‘Danish Capital of America.’ Jule House means Christmas House in Danish and the store front is always decked up as if the holidays are here. And the store has all things Christmas including some classic wooden exhibits, ornaments, and wall hangings. With all those attractive wares it has displayed in its aisles, in Jule Hus it always is the season-to-be-jolly, here.

Solvang

If you look at the exterior of the building that houses this Christmas House you will notice that it looks nothing like the kind of buildings you normally see in California. The reason you see what-looks-like-half-timbered-buildings here, is because, in the early 2oth century some Danish immigrants bought some land here in the Sana Ynez Valley and called it Solvang meaning ‘Sunny Meadow’ and in due course made it home, attracting more Danes from all over and gradually turning it into a ‘Little Denmark.’

  1. I visited Solvang a few years ago and found it such a charming town! T visited this Christmas house and loved it and bought some little ornaments for my tree. I also loved the bakery there and bought a large amount of different pastries as they all looked so good. We ate them over the rest of our trip up the California coast.
