When the schools in Mountain House close for the summer holidays, the community gets ready for the annual Kite Festival. Mountain House Kite Festival 2018 took place over the weekend that just went by — June 2nd to be precise. The Kite Festival took place at Mountain House’s own Central Park. At the event there was live music, food and games for the kids.
And then, there were the kites. And a stall selling kites.
Some glimpses from the kite festival:
Mountain House Kite Festival – Sights and Sounds:
Did you know that Mountain House CA lies in California’s Central Valley, close to the Diablo range? And that it gets very windy over here, in late spring? (Yeah, the wind here is known to topple those big trash cans, break fences and blow away not-so-heavy patio furniture. Here’s a sample of the famous Mountain House wind — watch till the end of the video)
Ever heard of Mountain House?
Mountain House is a still-being-developed planned-city in San Joaquin County in Northern California. It lies somewhere between Livermore, CA and Tracy, CA and not very far from the Altamont Pass. I think I’ll have to show you more of the place. That, soon. (It’s quite a pretty place. :))

Yeah, it was quite colorful. I thought I had more pictures than I seem to have actually taken. 😀

I could not learn to fly Kite (: but love it very much . Very beautiful and colorful kites are there in your post .
Neither can I (fly a kite, I mean) but it’s fun to watch — to look at the colors of the kites and watch the wind take them higher and higher.
Thank you, Yogi.
I live in the East Bay and a former colleague’s sister lives in Mountain House and she keeps on talking about going there. For the life of me, I don’t know where it is located.
Worth a Thousand Words
Haha! it’s just off 205 on the route to Tracy.
When you say Mountain House people tend to ask you — did you mean Mountain View? 😀
I could give you an excuse to visit Mountain House. 😉

It was fun watching the kites until it got very hot out there. 🙂
Love the kites and pretty sky. Great captures. The festival looks like fun! Have a happy day and week ahead!
It’s lovely to watch kites (provided it’s not too hot outside. :D)
You have a happy week, too.
Thank you for stopping by, Eileen. 🙂
Can’t remember if I heard of the kite festival – have lived for 30+ years in the Los Angeles basin, and there are aooo many events:) And am not to familiar with the area you’re pointing out, but this one looks like fun! We taught our kids not only to fly a kite, but also how to make one themselves. Thanks for coming to my blog!
This place is an hour’s drive east of SF (that is if the traffic is not too bad. 😀 )
Oh yeah? That is so cool. I don’t know how to fly a kite. 😐
That was a beautiful painting that I came across on your blog.
Thank you for coming this way, Jesh. 🙂
that looks like fun to me. And the kites are looking great 🙂
It was fun watching the kites and watching poeple trying to master the art of flying them.
There were some professional too. 🙂
Thank you for coming this way, Monica.
Beautiful expanse of blue sky and lovely kites! 🙂
I only had my cellphone, so could manage only this many pictures. 🙁
How have you been, Deepa?
Nice vibrant festival. Like our Kite festival in January during Sankranti.
Yeah? There’s a Sankranti-kite festival? In Mumbai?
Will look out for your posts around then.
Thank you, Magiceye.
