Shades of Fall on the Southern Sierras

Autumn’s here and it calls for some color — some colors of the season! So we go to the southern Sierras in California to see some some fall color in Sequoia National Park.

These pictures are from late fall; Thanksgiving break of 2018 to be precise. So if you are going up the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range to see some of California’s State Trees in the fall, you are likely to see some hints of color here and there. Here’s a sneak peek at the shades of fall in the midst of those evergreen trees up there.

Sequoia National Park is situated on the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range an it is known for its Giant Sequoia trees, mountainous terrain, Moro Rock and a log tunnel among other things.

It is also home to the largest and third largest trees in the world. And the second largest one is not very far from this national park. You can read more about the largest tree — The General Sherman Tree here — The must-see Redwood Trees of Sequoia National Park.

The next few images are from General’s Highway the road that takes you into the park from the Three Rivers area. The monolith you see in the second image is Moro Rock. And the River in the gallery below is Kaweah River.

  1. Living in Tennessee now, I miss so much all the wonders the west has to offer. When I visited Sequoia National Park in my twenties, it was a stopover on a car trip up the coast, staying the night at a chalet in the heart of the redwoods. Nothing can compare to that experience. Must be wonderful to see the entire park.

    1. Oh wow! That sounds like a wonderful trip. We stayed in beautiful house too, down in Three Rivers. So those daily drives up General’s Highway was GREAT! 😀
Thank you so, so much for your comment, Yvonne. 🙂

    1. I’ve been wanting to go see the colours on the other side of the Sierras. And every year something comes up around that time. And now we have covid19. 😐
Thank you so much, Soma. 🙂
