Fresh fruits, food and music at a Sunday Market

I’ve been wanting to visit a local Farmer’s Market for a while now and finally got down to doing it last Sunday. We chose to go see Campbell Farmer’s Market in Campbell, California and returned with some fresh groceries (and some pictures taken with a point-and-shoot).

If you are not familiar with the concept, a Farmer’s Market is a once-a-week event that happens in cities across the US. The idea is for farmers to take their produce straight to consumers ie. sans the middlemen. They usually take place at one of the downtown streets or at a park.

Apart from the direct marketing of fruits and vegetables, you will also find stands selling spices, fast food, pickles and Jams, flowers, baked desserts and even fish and Jewellery. At the Campbell Farmer’s Market we even found a photographer selling his photographic works. Oh, and there was a lot of music too as there were several performers stationed in between the stalls. Some of them were singing for money and others were performing as well as selling their records.

Walking through a farmer’s market is quite a delight. Here are some sights from Campbell’s Farmer’s Market:

–> Campbell Farmer’s market takes place on SUNDAYs
–> The stalls come up between Campbell Avenue and 2nd Street.
–> You’ll find parking @ N.2nd Street and Civic Center Drive at a multi-level public parking facility. Parking here is FREE.

  1. love those tomatoes… so fresh! I love going to farmers market but honestly, I don't always find fresh veggies there. Still, just love to go there.
How have you been Divya? Been a really long while since I saw a post from you!

    1. Hey Raji,
Yeah, It was fun visiting. I hear every farmer's market has a character of it's own; should check out some more markets. 🙂
I've not been in much of a mood to write, although I'd been exploring places as usual.

    1. Actually there are some places that have these weekly markets where people from the countryside bring their produce to small towns. I remember seeing one along NH 212 several times. I believe near Srirangapatna. You should check that out.

Yup, I'm back :). See you on your blog soon.

    1. :)You'd have gotten some great photographs if not anything else, Ramakant. 🙂

It took me forever to go visit one. 🙂

I hear some people shop at farmers markets week after week. But we need to be making trips to the Indian grocery stores; can't help that. 🙂 But that's not going to stop me from looking at a few more of these markets. 🙂

  2. I always enjoy going to the local markets in India. The sights and sounds always fascinated me. A farmer's market does seem to be an interesting place and boy! they sell jewellery too? I must visit one 🙂

    1. It was fun to shop at a farmer's market once in a way. I didn't expect to see jewellery there. It looked like some of them were handmade ones.
Seeing gourmet food for dogs, made me smile. :)Cute, right?
