Coastal Coffee
While we are still in Washington (with the recent posts on Hoh Rainforest and Hurricane Ridge), let me show you a pretty little sight I saw on our way to Olympic National Park. It’s a cute little painted cabin – a building covered with art. Painted in the colors of the sea and images inspired by the Pacific Ocean not very far from it, it was labeled Coastal Coffee 101.
A coffee shop it is. And the 101 has to be for the US 101 – the highway beside which the cafe is located. And the city where this adorable cafe is located is South Bend, Washington.
I spotted Coastal Coffee 101 on our way, on the route between Cape Disappointment and Hoh Rainforest, if you would like to look for it while you are traveling that side.
Not very far from the painted cabin, I also came across this roadside attraction — some signs and photographs that seemed to be celebrating South Bend, WA.
South Bend, WA
South Bend, Washington gets its name from the Willapa River on whose banks the city stands. It is on the southern part of a big meander of the river, to be more precise.
South Bend, WA is said to have been established in 1869. And it looks like it’s proud of its nickname, the Oyster Capital of the World as well as its courthouse (pictured in the middle, in the picture above), which is on the National Register of Historic Places.
South Bend is located in Pacific County in Washington and happens to be the county seat, too. It is also known for the large amounts of oyster harvesting that is done in the Willapa River.
Did you know:
One out of every six oysters consumed in the US comes from this part of Washington, they say.

As soon as I saw the name of the coffee shop, I knew it was on Route 101. Simply charming. It makes me want to stop in for a cup of coffee. I also like the photos of all those signs from South Bend, too.
