Driving through South India – III (The Auto Rickshaws)

The Auto Rickshaws! What would we do without them!

Ricks near Garuda Mall, Bangalore

They’re black and yellow and three-wheeled. Not trying a ride in this for-hire three-wheeler is like going to Venice and not getting into a Gondola.

They are so much a part of the Indian roads; they are like the life blood of travelling India. If you want to go from one end of town to another or you are looking for a vehicle to drop you at the railway station, the answer is most likely an Auto Rickshaw.

If you are in a busy city and want to get to some place quickly (and you don’t ride a two wheeler) you might as well take a Rick that can navigate those narrow lanes or take you to the front of a traffic jam. These mini taxis were my best friend when I was working as a reporter in Bangalore and had to get to my assignments on time. It was probably one of the things I missed most when I moved abroad.

  1. Its fun travelling in a autorikshaw and nothing can replace that experience of going through the narrow alleys or roads where big vehicles like cars or buses may not go but you sitting in the rickshaw can proudly traverese through it feeling like a king. When it comes to travelling between cities I prefer flights when my pocket allows and take domestic flight coupons from MyCouponpromotion India.

  2. to get rid of tiring rickshaws and the high fare charged by them, simple switch to Uber, a save and convenient mode of transport and at a price lower then rickshaws. Also use the uber coupons as ride discounts at couponchaska.com
