When it’s fruit season, we’ve headed to U-Pick farms to pick strawberries, a few times. This time, however, we decided to do something different and went nectarine picking. As we picked nectarines, I found myself looking at the Nectarine Tree, its leaves and trunk and all.
I brought back some pictures and I thought they ought to be shared on Thursday Tree Love, so here they are —
Nectarine Season
It was in early June that we went nectarine picking on a farm in Brentwood, California. The farm, I believe, was Mc Kinney Farms, off Marsh Creek Road.
It was the Yellow nectarine that was ripe and ready to be picked, that day. The smooth-skinned fruit looked well-colored, juicy, and begging to be taken home. And that wasn’t hard as the fruit seemed to be on small trees that were easy to reach onto. I hear that most of these trees are pruned to stay 10 to 12 ft. in height. That’s perfect for U-Pick farms, is it not?!
The Nectarine Tree
This fruit tree can be seen in plenty in California as it seems to enjoy the Mediterranean Climate that CA is blessed with. The Nectarine tree seems to thrive in hot Summers, and the cool Winters are said to help its growth as well as the fruit-bearing in the Spring.
The nectarine tree also seems to want a lot of sunshine (that, CA is known for) and well-drained soil. And with the state’s central valley being well-networked with canals for its agricultural purposes, I’m sure the water needs of this fruit tree are taken care of even in the hot, dry summer months.
Description: The Nectarine Tree is quite like the peach tree. It is deciduous and can grow up to a height of 25 ft. if not pruned.

Don’t they? They tasted so good! We finished them all just like that — as fresh fruit.
