Shaver Lake In The Springtime

It was towards the end of March 2021 that we visited California’s Shaver Lake. It was in the middle of the Pandemic — a trip after a year and a half of no tripping if you exclude the local hikes. There was light at the end of the covid19 tunnel (read: vaccinations were underway) and we needed a change of scene.

So we decided to do a small little trip over spring break. The idea was to go someplace not very far, carry our own cleaning supplies and stay in a vacation rental.

We didn’t do much during the trip, either. But I must say that after the travel-fast, the drive to the mountains and a different picture through the windows (for a couple of days) was VERY refreshing. And we got to see bits and parts of Shaver Lake — which was supposed to the main attraction of the trip.

Shaver Lake

Shaver Lake is a manmade lake up on the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. Made by damming the Stevenson Creek, the lake is located at an elevation of 5370 ft. and has a storage capacity of 135,568 ft.

This lake in Fresno County attracts visitors who are into boating and fishing. There are also some hikes you can do around here. You can also do a drive around the deep-blue lake that is surrounded by the Sierra National Forest.

However, when we visited, a part of the road was still closed off for the Winter and early Spring months. Even then, we got several glimpses of the still waters of the sapphire lake up in the mountains. And saw signs of how active this place could get in the summer.

When you are visiting Shaver Lake, you might also want to drive further and go see Huntington Lake. If you’d like do some hiking, check out Granite Ridge Loop.

  1. Oh I am so envious. I long to spend a few days away in such a beautiful spot like this. One day it will happen again but in the meantime I will feast my eyes on photos such as this.

    1. I know… It’s been hard to read/watch the news from home.
It didn’t have to be this way!! Not after all that has been in the world news for the last year and a half.
Take care, Renuka. 🤗 This too shall pass. 🤞🏽

We’ve been through a lot of restrictions too. They sure helped — to a large extent.

    1. 🙂
It looked so pretty. Placid, too; there was hardly any activity in the waters of the lake. I’m guessing it’ll be a different scene in the summer.

      Thank you, Nomad. 🙂
