Sphere Las Vegas: The Future of Entertainment is here!

The Sphere Las Vegas
The Sphere Las Vegas

We just watched our very first film on the largest curved LED screen inside the largest spherical structure — the first-ever Sphere, located in Las Vegas. Inside the dome, Dorothy, Auntie Em, and Toto filled a huge screen that enveloped us with a unique experience! Tin Man, Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion sometimes looked down at us, and at times, we looked down at them, skipping down the yellow brick road. We shared with the characters the stormy skies of Kansas and caught a glimpse of the blue sky from the ground of a field of poppies. We even had a towering Wizard of Oz glare down at us, and had a mini-experience of being caught in an event in Tornado Alley. And I’m still tipsy from the audio-visual adventure!

Yes, it was the Wizard of Oz that we watched there. If you’d like to see it this time or the next time it’s on the screen in the Sphere let me tell you — I give it a big thumbs up! Whether you watch this film, another one or some other kind of show here, it is sure to be an unforgettable experience. And you’ll see that the venue is an attraction by itself.

The Sphere Las Vegas

The Sphere Las Vegas stands out against the city skyline like nothing else, and how wouldn’t it?! It’s a large orb with moving pictures on it; like someone placed a large gazing ball in the middle of that sparkling city in the Mojave Desert!

Art on the Exosphere

This gigantic spherical screen puts up shows for the streets of Las Vegas — all day long. You will get to see works of art flowing over the dome, showcasing creations of digital artists, filmmakers and muralists. And every now and then, this large canvas turns into a hemispherical billboard displaying adverts, too. Whatever is up there, it’s a sight to see, to watch and to be fascinated by.

Things to know about the Sphere Las Vegas

What is the Sphere
The Sphere is a fairly new point of interest in Las Vegas, Nevada. What makes it a ‘thing-to-see’ is the fact that it is a spherical building with an exterior that acts as a digital screen throwing up new images every few seconds. Go inside and you’ll see that it has another curved screen, this one, to play films and backdrops for stage shows.

How to see the Sphere
If you drive around Las Vegas, you are sure to see this structure. This picture dome can be seen from several different parts of the city. From some spots, you see a huge screen between buildings, from some places you see the top of this globular building, and when you get a fairly unobstructed view, you see the whole other-worldly construction that has become a striking feature of this city’s skyline.

The best view I’ve had of it was from the High Roller, the Observation Wheel at the LINQ. I’m sure it’d look great from the window seat of an airplane, too. ( Look out for it when you fly over Vegas.)

Where exactly is it
The Sphere is a block east of Las Vegas Boulevard / The Strip, just behind The Venetian. The automobile entry to it is from Sands Avenue (near its intersection with Koval Lane). You should also be able to enter it via the Venetian Convention Center (we left the Sphere that way — to get to The Strip).

How to experience it
Drive around this spherical building. Also, try to see it from the High Roller. The best experience, however, might be to catch a show inside the theater — on the biggest concave screen you can think of. Watch anything here, and you will be seeing it in 16K resolution, and it’s accompanied by sounds and feels that give you a full-throttle 4D experience.

How old is Las Vegas Sphere?
This futuristic superstructure has been adorning Vegas’ cityscape and entertaining Sin City since 2023. Its construction, however, had begun in 2019. It’s the first of its kind. Sphere Entertainment now has plans to construct a few more of these entertainment domes. The next one is coming up in Abu Dhabi.

What to know before you go
If you would like to catch a show inside, please note — especially if you have health issues or are pregnant  — that, along with the sights and sounds that come with it, there might be smells and feels. You might catch a few scents, and there might be a strong movement of air (think in terms of a generated gust), and some movement of your seats too.

    1. As I was working on the post, I was thinking I should have taken more pics of the art for Monday Mural. 😐
Next time! With more muralists getting to showcase their art here, there’s going to be a lot more to see on the Sphere’s exosphere. 🙂

Thank you for hosting, Sami. Have a great week!
