The Almond Trees are Abloom Again

The first signs of spring appear in California’s San Joaquin Valley when its many almond trees begin flowering. That is usually around mid-February. They are like natures Valentine’s day flowers for us. The picture above is a cell phone shot from a quick trip to Modesto, California. It wasn’t exactly a pleasure trip but the sight sure brought some pleasure.

If you’ve been following the blog for some time you might remember seeing a post from 2019 when I had put together pictures from a few drives around the northern San Joaquin Valley. If not, no worries, you can always go back and see those pretty sights of trees crowned with clouds of white blossoms. Here’s that post —> The Almond Orchards are in Bloom!

Almonds Blossoms in California

If is mid-February or a couple of weeks after that, it might be a good idea to go see is you can catch some almond blossoms in the valley. You can drive around the Tracy- Stockton- Modesto area and you are sure to find some of those delightful sights.

California’s Almond Cultivation

Over the past few year, I’ve been seeing more and more almond orchards coming up in the valley. So I went and did some reading about the cultivation around here and found that California produces 80 per cent of the world’s almonds and 100 per cent of USA’s almonds. That sure makes California’s Central Valley ‘the place’ go see almond blossoms.

According to Waterford Nut Company, there’s is almond cultivation in over 450,000 acres of California’s land, mainly in the San Joaquin Valley and Sacramento Valley.

I see that that area is only expanding. Looks like the hot dry summers and cool wet winters that California is known for is conducive for the growth of almonds. And we’re going to have more almond blossoms to see!

Now you know where to go for a Valentine’s Day drive or to catch some of the first few signs of spring. 😉

    1. 🙂
They really make a very pretty sight. It’s a pity the flowers don’t last longer but then again, that makes it more special. 🙂
Thank you for coming this way, Archana. 🙂

      1. So pretty and along the road, these tree look dreamy. Thanks for sharing, Divya! I don’t know when and if I will get to see these but some day for sure. Until then, your pictures are the best. Truly a February love.
See you tomorrow and thanks for joining!

    1. Now you know where to find these first few signs of spring. Come, see some almond blossoms in CA, sometime.

Thank you for visiting, Klara. I love your photography! 🙂

  1. That is so beautiful. I have never seen an en masse planting of flowering trees like that, even the one year I went down to Macon, Georgia to see their cherry blossoms in bloom (second, I understand, only to those in Washington, DC – which I have never seen.)

There are plenty of orchards in the San Joaquin Valley and the area of cultivation is only expanding. 🙂

Thank you for coming this way, Alana. 🙂
