Just one of those San Francisco Things: Piano Stairs

Musical Stairs, San Francisco, CA

You probably know by now that San Francisco has some ‘steps to see!’ Some time back you saw the Coca-Cola stairs here on Tipsy from the TRIP. And I have more ‘stair art’ to show you, some that I haven’t seen yet but hope to. Today, let me show you SF’s Musical Stairs or piano stairs as I would like to call it.

The Musical Stairs can be found at the busy Pier 39 (where the Coca-Cola steps also are). This staircase obviously gets its name from the white and black piano keys painted onto the steps. That’s not all, though! They are musical, too. Run up or down the stairs and you’ll hear it! It’s going to sound faint in the middle of all the din but music it is! 🙂 You will see that for each step you’ll hear a note.

These piano stairs in Pier 39 were created by Artist Remo Saraceni. This interactive art exhibit has been playing music for the area since June 14, 2013.

If you’d like to go see the musical stairs when you are in San Francisco, remember — it is on Pier 39. The piano key steps are just beside the San Francisco Keychain Store and We Be Knives and the stairs would take you up to Magowan’s Infinite Mirror Maze on the upper level of Pier 39.

Watch this space for more of San Francisco’s stair art. 😉

    1. The sounds are very faint considering the noise levels there during the day. It sure is a cool installation, though. 🙂
Thank you for hosting, Sami. 🙂

    1. Isn’t it? 🙂
SF has some cool stairs with mosaic murals too. I’ve to go check them all out, soon! 😁

Thank you for coming this way, Klara. 🙂

    1. Next time! 😉
It took me a long time to get here, too ( even though I’ve been to the area several times!)😁

      Happy long weekend, Soma. 🙂

  1. Went there when the grandson was still in gradeschool. He loved those stairs. Had to finally make him leave them so we could continue our visit to SF. He’d have stayed and played all day.

    1. Nice to know you have memories here.
It’s such a great installation! Perfect for the city of San Francisco!

Thank you for hosting Pictorial Tuesday, Peabea. 🙏🏽
