Get to know California’s Central Valley

A few weeks back I was out having breakfast in Livermore, CA, and the friends I was out with wanted to quickly pick up something from an Asian grocery store near there. I went along and one of the first things I spotted was a picture of what looked like California’s Central Valley.

It may not have been a painting but it sure was a nice piece of art and so apt for the place, and I’ll tell you why.

California’s Central Valley

California’s Central Valley — as its name implies — makes the center of the state. This valley that occupies around 20,000 square miles of land is also called the Great Valley. Apart from its vastness, it’s also known for its produce.

This fertile land between California’s Coastal ranges and the lofty Sierra Nevada Mountain Range produces a whole lot of fruits, vegetables and even grains. Agriculture takes centerstage here and if you drive the length of the valley you’ll see that it nurtures citrus fruits, peaches, nectarines, grapes, lettuce, onions, artichoke, cabbage and whatnot! Go in early spring and you’ll see miles of orchards crowned with clouds of almond blossoms.
