A few weeks back, you saw some full-sized murals on a beach on California’s Central Coast, now here’s some graffiti from a beach further north. The splash of color you see here is in the San Francisco Bay Area, on a beach that’s almost hidden by the cliffs of the San Mateo Coast. It’s almost as if it is the graffiti on Cowell Ranch Beach that leads people down to the pocket beach, here.
It was on a spring day that we were on the Cowell-Purisima Coastal trail. We chose to hike there that day to see the wild flowers that blanket a coastal field here on the San Mateo Coast and it was these colorful panels of wood that brought our attention to the beach access.
Graffiti on Cowell Ranch Beach

I saw no names, there. These pieces of art were probably done by more than one person. I don’t know if it was there legally and I have no idea if these are still up there. It was a while ago that I took these snapshots.
Cowell Ranch Beach
If you are in the SF Bay area and are looking for quiet and fairly uncrowded beaches to go to, try Cowell Ranch Beach. The cliffs that protect this small little beach makes it a very pretty picture. The way down is, like I said earlier, not in a very obvious place. There’s a small trail that branches off the Cowell Purisima Trail and goes towards a bench at the edge of a cliff. If you walk toward the bench, you’ll see an almost hidden set of steep steps that lead to the beach.
Be careful if you’re going to swim there. This place has had some rip current incidents, and I doubt there are coast guards here. Stay safe!
Cowell Purisima Coastal Trail
This is a seaside trial I’ve been on and would recommend. It’s a lovely trail with grand views of the Pacific Ocean. You’ll cross the Purisima Creek and you’ll also see a few coves as the trail hugs the edge of the cliffs. I would say spring is the best time to go here because the landsape is painted in yellow when the wildflowers take over the area.
