One of my latest finds in terms of murals has been this Cherryland Mural. Painted on a overpass, the mural has a green background with ‘Cherryland’ painted onto it. Ther are also some cherry blossoms on it. The ‘Cherryland’ and the cherry flowers on it talk of the history of the East Bay Community near here.
Cherryland Mural
Cherryland, California is an unincorporated community in Alameda County in the San Francisco Bay Area. Cherryaland CA is situated near Ashland another unincorporated area, San Lorenzo and Hayward, CA. The area is said to have been agricultural land and home to cherry orchards.
The Cherryland Mural is painted by artist Nicco Berry and is supposed to have been up since 2019, according to the artist’s personal website. According to the site, Berry is a San Francisco-based muralist and graffiti artist who moved from Chicago in the mid 90’s.
Where exactly is this mural?
The Cherryland identifier mural is on Mission Boulevard in Ashland, CA, very close to where it meets Cherryland. You can see it on the 238 overpass.
From the reading I tried to do on the mural and from looking it up on the map, I learned that on the other side of the overpass is an Ashland mural, marking the Ashland side.
The Ashland mural, I see has a yellow painted background with Ashland written on it, and the city’s name has some Oregon Ash leaves on its sides.
(Now that I know of the mural on the other side of the Cherryland mural, I look forward to going that way again sometime and bringing back pictures of that mural, too.
