Found in Morton, WA: Logger’s Jubilee Mural

 Logger's Jubilee mural, Morton, WA.

This Logger’s Jubilee mural is from the town of Morton in Washington State. I came across this illustration when I was passing by the place during our trip to the Pacific Northwest, last summer.

Having managed to take a picture of the Logger’s Jubilee mural and not finding anything else on the wall, I thought I’d try to find a little something about it. And this is what I learned:

Morton, WA has a history of logging. And every year in the second week of August, the City of Morton hosts the Logger’s Jubilee, a festival for the logging community. The two-day event apparently has a slew of friendly competitions from events like lawn mowing, log rolling, axe-throwing, speed tree-climbing, and different kinds of sawing contests. It looks like they also have a beauty pageant where they crown a Jubilee Queen. With all this and more, they say that the Morton Logger’s Jubilee is the Granddaddy of logging shows.

The official site of the logging show tells me that the festival sees competitors coming in from not just the state of Washington but also from all over the country and places as far as Australia and New Zealand.

Now if you think you’d like to go witness the activities of the Morton Logger’s Jubilee, it is going to be a while before you can do that. The logging show that was started in the 1930s and had been taking place yearly (save the years of the Second World War) will not be taking place this year. It has been canceled because of the Covid19 pandemic.

If you’d like to get a taste of how exciting the Morton Logging Jubilee is, watch this video that I found. It sure looks like a lot of fun. Have you been to a logging event like this one?

  1. I saw one of these events on TV one year. It looked like a fun event, even for those of us who had no knowledge of logging. I loved seeing the log roll and the axe throwing. Thanks for sharing this rare find.

  2. Oh, I´ve seen that on TV years ago and also in shows, I think it even was in “Tool Time”.
Yes, “Corinna” makes a lot of trouble.
All the people who counted on earning money in the event, selling food and drink, music, whatever, same here.
