Mamalahoa Highway
The road to Kona, HI (from Punaluu Black Sand Beach).

This week for ‘Catching the Light,’ I’ve pulled an all-time favourite from the travel album. This one is from my Hawaii trip a few years back and it is a photograph of the evening sun falling on a wet Mamalahoa Highway giving it a silvery look. (If you look carefully, you will see that is the image on website’s favicon. 😉 )

We were on this highway on Big Island, Hawaii, when we were returning to the Kona area from the southern part of the Island, where we had made a stop to see a Black Sand Beach — Punaluu Beach. Earlier that day we had been exploring Volcanoes National Park.

I didn't know I had a picture like this. I was hunting for another picture and found this and I was like — I could use this for 'Catching the light!'
      Thanks again. 🙂

I think I prefer the second version! The sunlight on the road is wonderful!! And you even captured some reflection from the hydro cables!

Me too, Judy. Actually that is the original.

I had to do some cropping on it to make a landscape/horizontal image for only the first image shows on the homepage.

Thanks a whole bunch, Judy. 🙂

A beautiful sun dance on the road with what looks like sun beams breaking through the clouds … this is an awesome capture on your part … and what a nice surprise for you when you found it. Sometimes being forgetful has it's perks 🙂 Lovely Picture D. Nambier …
