From the Chinese New Year Parade in San Francico, CA. 2012 |
The Chinese community in the San Francisco Bay Area has been putting up a late evening Chinese New Year Parade in SF since the 1800s. It is a show of song and dance, culture and lights. This year’s Parade is scheduled for the 7th of March (2015).
If you would like to see this grand cultural showcase, find the parade route here
I got to see the event in 2012. You’ll find an account and some pictures from the Year of the Dragon in this post — From the Chinese New Year Parade in SF

So this year is the Year of the ….? We also have a parade in Chicago but I haven't heard about it yet. I always wonder what year they are celebrating. They seem to have a dragon in the parade no matter what and, of course, many firecrackers. What fun, I hope you post more on this after it happens … I would love to see it.

I hear it is the Year of the Sheep, Andrea. 🙂
The dragon is an important part of the culture, no matter what year it is.
The parade in SF, they say is the biggest one outside Asia. One year I managed to go for it and it was really amazing. I'm not in the Bay Area right now. So I won't be able to go for it. 🙁 Hopefully next year… 🙂
