This Thousand Lake Wilderness mural was found in Burney, California.
Burney is a small town in the Southern Cascades in Northern California. It lies somewhere between Mt. Shasta and Mt. Lassen, two famous volcanoes of the Cascade Mountain Range.
We were in Burney, CA in the summer, when we’d made a trip to Burney Falls just north of this town. As we drove through Burney, I saw several murals all around the town.
Now let’s look at this mural:

Now, Thousand Lakes Wilderness is not an area I have not visited, yet. When I came across this mural in Burney, I was curious. So, I looked it up. And here’s what I learnt:
Thousand Lakes is an area that lies between Burney, CA and Lassen Volcanic National Park. The Thousand Lakes Volcano once stood here. Apparently, when the 10,000 ft mountain erupted, several smaller peaks took birth on the rim of its crater. Also conceived around the time were several lakes and alpine ponds in and around where the volcanic mountain stood. It looks like it was the large number of small and fairly large lakes here that earned the area the name — Thousand Lakes.
Who painted the Thousand Lakes Wilderness Mural?
I’ve been trying to decipher the signature of the artist who created the Thousand Lake Wilderness and haven’t really been successful. Would you know the name of the artist?
Or would you like to try reading this?

…a 1,000 lake, that sounds wonderful!
The ‘1000’ is an exaggeration, I hear but the area is said to home to a large number of lakes.
