A few months ago a friend and I hiked Mission Peak, a popular hiking destination here in the San Francisco Bay Area. That foggy December day we were mostly trudging up a hilly trail that had hardly had any vegetation beside it. However, almost half the way up, the trail passed through a fairly dark wooded area (that I’m sure would provide some respite to hikers up there on a hot summers day). In the midst of that clump of trees is an intriguing tree — for want of a better word — a tentacled tree.
The tree had a lot of branches and each of them seems to have grown in a different direction giving the tree an unusual and maybe even uncanny look. Look at it! Have you seen anything like this?
This tentacled tree reminds me of how many a god of the Hindu pantheon are often picturized — with several hands; a symbolism of his or her many powers.
I know not what this tree is called or how it came to look like that. However, it stood out from the rest of the trees of that forested part along the Mission Peak Trail and it demanded to be photographed. And so here it is! It had to be on Tipsy from the TRIP and it had to be linked to Thursday Tree Love.
Where to find the Tentacled Tree
If you happen to walk all the way to the Mission Peak Summit you might want to look for it. It does look different from the trees around it, yet you could miss it. You are going to find it if you take the YSC- Spring Trail to the top. The wooded area that I talk of is near Mill Creek Road. In fact it is where the trail runs almost parallel to the road but goes up the hill into a dark wood.
If Mission Peak is not on your wishlist or it is too far away from where you are, you can still experience the hike and the views from the summit if you visit my post Mission Peak — Mission Accomplished!
(It was a strenuous hike that a friend took on to mark Year 40. ;))

Come, Trip with us. 😉
It does look like a tree from a sci-fi movie! Thanks for your blog visit.
Haha!
It does, doesn’t it?
Thank YOU, Sharon. 🙂
The tree got inspired by a sci-fi loving octopus 🙂
😀
It sure did.
Octopus was what first came to my mind, too. 🙂
Nature is awesome, but I must say… looks a bit scary! Like from a horror-movie! “Supernatural” comes to mind…
Isn’t it?
The more I look at that tree, the more scary it looks. It didn’t seem that way when I saw the tree, tho’ 😀
Oh yes! 🙂
That is truly an unusual tree! I don’t know what kind it is, but it’s fabulous 🙂
Thanks for joining us at ‘My Corner of the World’ this week!
Unusual, it is. 🙂
Thank you for hosting, Betty.

I never seen this kind of trees in nature …. great shots.
Have a wonderful weekend

Thank you, Carol.
Uh-oh. I hope you feel well, soon.
Take care. 🙂
What an interesting one this is, Divya! I have seen similar trees in the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore. Sometimes it feels as if the tree has stayed put through all and showed up strong. Thanks for joining, Divya!
Interesting, it is. 🙂
Oh yes — IISC does have a lot of trees, no?
Hmm…that’s a great way of looking at it. Thank you for hosting, dear Parul.
Take care. 🙂

Wow what an amazing tree!
🙂
Isn’t it? 🙂
Loving the beautiful pictures! Never spotted trees like this in real-time! Well, thanks for sharing!
The pleasure is mine. 🙂
Thank YOU for coming this way.
Wow! Loved that. Would be easy to climb onto the branches. 🙂 How high did you go?
Haha yeah — that one looks just right to get onto.
Njaan kerilla. 😬
