If youβve read the post on the walking tour of Stanford University in California, you might remember that I mentioned a Hoover Tower (that deserved a post of its own). Hoover Tower on Stanford University’s campus is a tall building β the tower that stands out as you gaze at the buildings from The Oval.
The first time I was on Stanford University’s campus, I didnβt know that the tower was open to the public. On my second visit there, when I discovered we could go up the tower and take in the sights, I was not going to let go of the chance. You might have noticed, I love getting onto those places high up that give you birds-eye views of the surroundings.
So we bought our tickets for the ride up and waited our turn. This is one of those places on campus that requires you to pay for entry. And if I remember correctly, they were particular about the number of people they were allowed to have up there at a particular time. So they let you into the elevator depending on the number of people who’ve leave there.
After a bit of a wait, our turn came and when we got to the observation level it was quite a sight!
It’s beautiful when you get out of the elevator and into the bright light up there. And the limited number of people up on the observation deck allows you to enjoy the views from up there. From here, you can see the red-roofed buildings and beautifully manicured gardens, the very green Oval lawn and all. Look farther away and you can see the San Francisco Bay, the Dumbarton Bridge over it, and the Diablo Mountains further east.
It was a hazy picture, a pretty sight nonetheless!
The Hoover Tower
The Hoover Tower in Stanford University is not just an ornamental structure. It houses a library. Itβs called Hoover Institute Library and Archives.
Most of the books in here belonged to a famous Stanford alumnus β President Herbet Hoover. He is said to have given these books on ‘war, revolution and peaceβ to his alma mater before he became president.
