Utility box art in Sacramento, California

This time for Monday Mural I have a piece of utility box art in Sacramento, California. It was in 2019 that I found this so I’m not sure if it is still there. If you are in Sacramento and would like to check it out or to just go look at the public art in the capital city, let me tell you where it might be.

It was at the intersection of 3rd/ Riverfront Street and Tower Bridge Gateway that I came across this electric box. It’s near one the landmarks of the city — the famous yellow Tower Bridge. It looks like it is CA State Route 275 over the Sacramento River.

I found no name on the box. So if anybody visiting this post knows the artist, do let me know and I’d love to add it here. I tried looking it up online and failed. Anyway, here is another look at the work on the utility box —

Now that we’re talking utility/electricity box art, what do you think about it? Do you think it beautifies our communities and that gives artists a platform or that those boxes are better off without much color?

Coming soon: (also from Sacramento, CA) — The murals in the Capitol.

That’s what I thought, too. I thought I was supposed to know more about this one.
It sure sends a powerful message. 🙂

Thank you for coming this way, Bertie. 🙂

She is truly beautiful. Is it art with the eyes or has someone tried to destroy the mural?

      Absolutely.
I think somebody tried to deface it. (And didn’t really succeed. 😁)

Have a good week, dear Iris. 🙂

Great utility box mural, it could have been painted by the American artist Shepard Fairey.
Just have a look at this mural in Sydney and you can notice some similarities, at least that’s what came to mind as soon as I saw it.
Thanks for participating in Monday Murals Dee

      Thank you so much, Sami.

Let me look up Shepard Fairey. It is such a beautiful piece and I’d love to attach a name to this blog post.
As always, thank you so much for hosting Monday Mural. 🙂
