MondayMural: Found In Guadalupe, CA

A mural with a map of California, found on the streets of Guadalupe, CA. ...

This week’s Monday Mural, is a map from Guadalupe, California. The map marks out a good part of California (And you can see Nevada and the Pacific Ocean, too). There’s a hand that seems to be saying ‘you are here,’ and also labeled are a few places like Fresno, Monterey, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Palm Springs.

It looks like there’s even information on how far from Guadalupe, these better-known Californian cities are. People driving through may not use it but it’s a nice touch to the mural, which is a ‘map-on-the-wall.’

Guadalupe, CA

Guadalupe is a small town on California’s Central Coast. It is situated by the famous Highway 1 (The Pacific Coast Highway), and on the northwestern corner of Santa Barbara County. The biggest attraction near here is a large coastal dune system.

We were on a trip to the Central Coast and after having seen a bit of Pismo and Avila Beach, and trying a drive on the beach at Oceano Dunes (I can’t say I enjoyed it. :-\. But it is the only motorable beach in CA), we had decided to go see the dunes.

Our plan was to take a trail here at Guadalupe but that didn’t work out. So we drove back north and towards the coast at Nipomo, a few miles from here. We took the Oso Flaco Lake Trail and hiked to Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes.

You can read about it here: A hike to the sands of Guadalupe Nipomo Dunes

Other places to see around here
Avila Beach
Pismo Beach
Oceano Dunes
Moro Bay

I’ve driven that stretch of highway from Santa Barbara northward a few times, but I don’t remember that town. It’s a breathtaking coast.

What a great find. I’ve driven the PCH near there before, but must have been asleep at the wheel because I don’t remember Guadalupe.

Great idea for a mural. The brick makes for such a wonderful background and the colour is amazing. Great find!

Glad I found your photo. I took photo of wall in 2002(was much fresher then strong colours and clear wording. Sadly didn’t get right and lower section missing. I was cycling route 1 from eureka to San Diego so wanted this to show whole route on this mural. Now I have it! Thank you.
I’m from UK and trip took me 3 weeks wonderful journey and camping your sites & hostels, brings back great memories of area. Very interesting content. Will keep an eye on it.
    Thanks again
