For this edition of Thursday Tree Love, we go all the way back a whole year, to last February, when we spotted some citrus trees laden with fruits. They might be oranges, or not — I’m not sure. I’m not very well-versed in the varieties of citrus fruits (I hear there are around 600 varieties of them ๐ณ).
We had gone hiking at Round Valley Regional Preserve in Brentwood, California. It was that time of the year when the hills in this part of the state had turned green and picturesque. We were out hiking and after an ‘eventful’ hike in that beautiful park, were just about to leave when we spotted these trees by the parking lot.
The trees looked very attractive with all that green foliage and some juicy looking citrus fruits ornamenting them. I couldn’t help taking a few pictures of them.
Did you know:
- Citrus fruits are said to be native to parts of Asia
- Through ancient trade routes the fruits made their way to the Middle East
- Christopher Columbus apparently introduced the citrus fruit to ‘the new world.’
- Today, the largest producers of Citrus fruits in the US are California and Florida
- On the world stage, the largest producers of the fruit are Brazil and China.

It looks fantastic. Bright, sunny and colorful. I’m waiting to show some citrus trees to my little one. Looking forward to the summer this year. ๐ค
Hi Jayanthy,
Welcome here. ๐
Those orange fruits made the trees look sowww attractive! ๐๐งก๐งก It is a happy sight. ๐
Citrus trees are not hardy where I live in New York State but years ago, I lived with Florida and when those orange trees bloomed, you could smell them for miles. Such a wonderful scent. Your orange trees (and I think you made the correct ID) brought back memories for me.
Looks like an orange tree but you are right that they are so many varieties that we may not know until we taste ;)Thank you for joining and I hope to see you back around.
The trees are as beautiful as the fruits are tasty!! Just a couple of thoughts to add … Citrus fruits belong to the Rutaceae family and have very fragrant flowers. Some species can be trained into good Bonsai that bear plentiful fruits. ๐
