Clash of the Seasons: Fall Color and Snow in Yosemite

Fall color and snow in Yosemite

Iโ€™ve been to Yosemite in fall but it was late in the season when the fall colors had dimmed to a darker yellow and were transitioning into browns. Yosemite is a wondrous sight whatever the season might be but I really did want to see some of that bright yellow color against the grey granites of this national park that Iโ€™m so in love with! Iโ€™d been keeping a tab on the color in the park and we had decided that this would be the year that we would go see Yosemiteโ€™s signature fall color. And go we did! But guess what โ€” the snow also decided to visit Yosemite that week. So yeah โ€” youโ€™re about to see what itโ€™s like to have –at the same time — fall color and snow in Yosemite.

Believe me when I say โ€” in Yosemite, when fall and winter collide it’s a beautiful disaster!

So โ€” this was not the fall color I had come to see but whoโ€™s complaining!? My kids enjoyed playing in the snow, the husband loved the idea of driving into a snow-covered landscape without having to worry about driving on it. (A lot of the roads in the park were plowed except for the part that becomes Tioga Pass.) And I am just happy to be in Yosemite โ€” anytime!

Now I have 2 more excuses to go up there โ€” to see the park in just its fall colors and to see it all-white in the thick of winter!

Yosemite National Park

If youโ€™re not familiar with Yosemite National Park, let me tell you that this national park in California is the stateโ€™s pride. Situated on the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range and carved out by glaciers, Yosemite is known for its views, towering monoliths, waterfalls, trails, wildlife and even redwood forests.

Itโ€™s a place you can visit over and over again because itโ€™s a different picture every season.

Autumn came there late this year, right?! I really enjoyed seeing the snow and the colours together against the granite! Also the waterfalls were flowing again. Really lovely photos from your visit there.

I must say having visited Yosemite a few times during the falls, it’s one of the most enjoyable leaf-peeping trips I have had. Was planning on doing another drive there this year, but alas, so busy with work and life. Glad you were able to do it.

    Happy Holidays

Breathtakingly beautiful! I hope to see Yosemite in person one day. Until then, your photos inspire me to find my way there! One photo looks like there might be dogs allowed there. That would be great!
