When the hills around San Francisco Bay Area turn green in the wintertime, it’s only right that you step out and enjoy the outdoors. The greenery and a hiking challenge were just what I needed to get exploring more of the metaphorical ‘backyard!’ One Saturday, a couple of weekends ago, I picked Seven Springs Trail in Fremont Older Open Space Preserve for a family hike, and I’m glad we went that way.
I’ve brought back pictures and information that you could use if you’re looking for a family-friendly hike to do in the San Francisco Bay Area.
First of all, let me tell you that this trail I’m going to take you through today is NOT in Fremont but near Saratoga and Cupertino.
Seven Springs Trail
This trail was a delight. At least in the winter, it’s an absolute delight! The hills had taken on their seasonal colors. It had rained a couple of days before I was there so the landscape looked fresh and clean. And the temperature was just right. As such, I can assure you that this time of the year is a great time to hike this trail on the Saratoga Hills.
Seven Springs Trail is a 2.6 mile, moderately challenging hike. It is a loop that takes you over some hillsides and through a forested area to a couple of vista points that show you views of the South Bay before you loop around and walk down those hills.
Some pictures from the trail:
Things to know about the Trail:
Trail: Seven Springs Trail (Loop)
Terrain: Mountainous, Unpaved
Difficulty Level: Moderate

52 Hike Challenge
Hike 9 of 52
If you need a push to go enjoy the outdoors this season, take up the 52 Hike Challenge. You can hike anywhere. You can hike as much or as little as you like; just make sure you have at least a mile recorded. Try to hike once a week. If you miss a week or two, just make up for it over the next few weeks so as to complete 52 hikes in a year’s time. No, you don’t have to wait for it to be January, to start. You can start this month and finish the same month next year. Happy Hiking.
