Watching the Sun Go Down on Kings Beach

Lake Tahoe is a gorgeous sight at any time of the year and any time of the day, too. As the year draws to a close, I thought I’d sign out of 2023 with images of a close of a day in Lake Tahoe. Come, watch a fall day sunset on Kings Beach, with me.

Kings Beach is a sandy beach that lies on the northern shores of Lake Tahoe. Now, if you’re not familiar with Lake Tahoe, let me tell you that it is an alpine lake situated in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. This lake, which is surrounded by mountains, lies mostly in California and partly in the state of Nevada. And Kings Beach on the northern part of the lake lies on the California side yet just by the border of California and Nevada.

Our latest trip to Tahoe was in October ’23. This time around we stayed in Alpine Village and we ended up making a couple of trips to Kings Beach as it was close by. On our first evening on the beach, I found some fall colors and on the last day of our fall trip to Tahoe, we returned to Kings Beach to catch a sunset, there.

As the sun sunk into the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada, this area became a picture of soft misty light filling up the gaps between the ridges of the mountain range. And the water of the lake seemed to turn still and orange — just the perfect backdrop for a great many silhouettes I caught that evening!

That’s a lovely quote, a hopeful note to end the year on. (I hope I’ll be able to reset. It seems like a difficult task this year.) Are you ready to say goodbye to 2023 and reset?
