The Marine Creatures of the San Francisco Bay

Aquarium of the Bay murals

On Pier 39 in San Francisco is an attraction called Aquarium of the Bay and on the walls of the aquarium are some murals of fish. This aquarium mostly showcases aquatic creatures of the San Francisco Bay but goes beyond the area to talk about what you might find in northern California’s waters. And it all starts off with these fish murals on the outer walls of the aquarium.

Go inside and you’ll see everything from anchovies to eels, from jellyfish to sharks and Octopuses to otters. San Francisco Bay’s marine animals can be seen in small and large tanks, touch pools and tunnels.

We been to this aquarium twice: once when our older one was a toddler and recently because our one, a second-grader wanted to see some fish. And my favorite part of the aquarium are the tunnels. There’s one tunnel that’s dedicated to the aquatic creatures that live in the shallow waters close to the shore and the other one shows the sharks of the bay.

Now that you’ve come this far, I might as well show you the tunnels I was talking about. It’s quite a hypnotizing effect in there if you go when it’s not too crowded.

Here’s something else from the Aquarium of the Bay that I’d like to share. It is neither a mural nor one of the many residents of the aquarium but it sure is a work of art. 🙂

  1. Wow, they are all quite beautiful! The Aquarium in Perth also has a tunnel under the water, it feels a bit scary to me.
Thanks for participating in Monday Murals Dee

    1. The work outside is so pretty. It’s nice to see these murals and go inside and see these aquatic creatures (most of them, at least :D) in their animated forms.
I can see why tunnels can make you uncomfortable. 🙂

Thank you so much for hosting, Sami. Have a great week. 🙂

  2. Not only did you share some amazing and incredible murals on the walls of the aquarium, you generously took us inside to share the tunnels with us. I am in awe of this entire post, Dee. I love all the fish around the outside and I enjoyed seeing the tunnel, too.

    1. I enjoy showing you as much as I can; it was fun to go beyond the murals.😁 And I love these underwater tunnels. I’m so glad you enjoyed this post, Elizabeth.
      Have a lovely week. 🙂
