It was on a late December day that we were in Ventura, California. It was Christmas week to be precise and it was supposed to be a rainy week. Then one day the sun was forecast to be out for a few hours and we slipped out to explore Ventura. After walking through the downtown area for a bit, we headed for San Buenaventura State Beach.

There was a promenade for a seaside stroll, 2 miles of beach, a 1,700-foot pier and some great views.

The Ventura pier, which dates back to 1872 is also a great place for a walk considering its length. If you walk halfway into the pier and look back you see a panoramic view of the Ventura and the hills of Ventura. And on the right, there’s Surfer’s Point, a popular surfing area as the name suggests. That you get sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean needs no mention. But if you walk to the end of the pier and look out into the ocean you see a group of islands. And that is Channel Islands, an archipelago that is a National Park.

After some fish & chips and some clam chowder at Beach House Fish on the east end of the pier, we spent some time on the beach. The south side of the pier (adjacent to the San Buenaventura State Beach parking lot seemed to be the quieter side. The views of the pier and the islands in the distance also seemed to be better that side. ๐Ÿ˜‰
