Alum Rock Park in San Jose is said to be one of the oldest municipal parks in California. Dating back to the early 1870s, this park still wears some signs of its historical past.

The landscaped part of Alum Rock park is an area for a family day out with lawns where you can picnic and the kids can play. A good part of the park has been left natural with some trails for some hikes through the Alum Rock Canyon and this part of the Diablo Range.

Some pictures from a walk in the park:

Interesting place.,.. also liked the way you have placed the pictures, the stone bird just below the real one…Such open spaces are a breath of fresh air for city dwellers ( literally )

We got to see only a part of this place. I believe there is so much more to see here if one were to to hiking.

I hear that certain rocks found here were mistaken for Alum, hence the name.
      Thank you, Indrani.

Now I'm in a place where the rains don't seem to stop. I miss the picnics and sunny days.

Thank you for the visit, Ranita.
