Circus Circus Mural Marathon - 2016, Reno-NV

For a few years now, Circus Circus Reno has been organizing an art event giving mural artists an opportunity to put up their works on the walls of the resort. Circus Circus Mural Marathon is the name of the event.

Circus Circus Mural Marathon

The Mural Marathon put up by Circus Circus is a competition where 7 qualifying artists are given some wall-space on the resort’s walls on the very busy Virginia Street. They are given 24 hours to finish their artwork, after which they are judged and three winners, chosen. The participating artists get to have their murals displayed on these very-visible walls for a whole year, that is — until the next year’s event.

The 24-hour mural marathon is usually held in the summer.

Last spring, when we were in the Reno, Nevada, I came across the 14 x 19.7 ft murals for the 2016-2017 edition and it was quite a feast for my eyes. Below are the seven murals that made it to the walls of Circus Circus. They must be gone by now; replaced by the 2017 murals. But they should be here on this page forever.

I looked up the murals that were on, for year 2016-2017 and found that the winning entry was the work by Arcy, followed by the works of Raphael Blanco and Joe C. Rock.

While I was at that, I came across a video on the event. If you’d like to see these artists at work and the announcement of visitors, you can watch this:

That looks like quite a celebration of art, doesn’t it? Let me know if you happened to see the latest murals of the mural challenge held by Circus Circus. I would love to come and take a look if you have pictures.
