Cityscape: San Diego from Coronado Island

What I wanted to see more than anything else during our San Diego trip was San Diego’s Skyline and its city-lights. And it looked like it was not going to happen. Then, the night before we left the Southern California city, we squeezed in a drive to Coronado Island. And weren’t the island, San Diego and San Diego Bay a sight to see!

Now, Coronado Island is just across the Bay from Downtown San Diego. If you are on Interstate 5, the Coronado Bridge that takes you off I-5 and onto the island is just a few miles north of the international border with Mexico.

 San Diego, CA

Downtown San Diego sits beside the San Diego Bay and just across the bay is Coronado Island. Setting your eyes on San Diego from Coronado Island — in my opinion — is a must-have point on one’s San Diego itinerary.

Coronado Bridge

It was during Winter Break that we were in San Diego. Night had set in early. So as we drove south from our hotel by Misson Bay to the downtown area by San Diego Bay, we found that all the lights in the area had come on. And San Diego and its surrounding areas looked doubly festive during the already festive Christmas week.

We drove past the downtown and then got onto the 200ft high Coronado Bridge, whose bejewelled lights guided us through that curve on the bridge and onto the island. The Marina down below and the reflections of a hundred thousand lights on the waters of Bay made such a pretty picture. It’s a pity we cannot stop on the bridge and capture that beauty onto an SD card. (On the other-side-of-the-coin are the dangers and the mishaps that have happened on that bridge.)

Once on the island, it took us a while to get to the place where we were to witness San Diego’s after-dark glory. We ended up going to Coronado Ferry Landing to see the city’s lights.

Do you see the lights that mark Coronado Bridge?

Coronado Ferry Landing

— I would highly recommend seeing San Diego from Coronado Island. There’s metered parking on the streets and then there’s the Ferry Landing’s parking lot.Β
–Coronado Ferry Landing – has some great places to dine in and shop. It has restrooms too.
–Walk to towards the Bay and you will see the Ferry Landing Pier.Β

I didn’t want to leave that pier that night. The picture was too pretty to say goodnight and goodbye to.

Have you seen the skyline from Cabrillo Monument? Is it a good place to catch San Diego’s City Light? Is there another place you would like to suggest for the views and San Diego cityscape?ο»Ώ
