Whales near San Leandro Marina

For Monday Mural this week is a whale mural found on the Sodium Bisulphate Building of the Marina Dechlorination facility in San Leandro, CA. ...

This morning when I was out walking the trail from Faro Point in San Leandro, California, I saw a whale mural staring at me. It reminded me of similar murals I had seen in Livermore.

So when I was done with my hike I headed straight to the whale at the south end of Marina Park. When I got closer to it, I noticed that there was not one but two whales on that wall. It was on a building called the ‘Sodium Bisulphate Building’ and below the painting was written, ‘Greenwood 2008.’

Whale Mural by Greenwood

Humpback Whale mural, San Leandro

The Sodium Bisulphate Building is part of a Marina Dechlorination facility, that is said to treat water before releasing it in the San Francisco Bay.

This whale mural — I read — was done by an artist by the name of Darren Greenwood and he is quoted having said that the idea of these Humpback whales here at the Sodium Bisulfate Building was to bring awareness about ill-effects of pollution.

And guess what — I look back at the post on the Whale Murals I found in Livermore and learn that those murals and this whale mural here in San Leandro were painted by the same artist.

You can see those huge murals here — Whale murals of Livermore

If you would like to see this mural for yourself, let me tell you where you can find it. South of San Leandro Marina is a park called the Marina Park and at the southern end of the park is a bridge that crosses a part of the SF bay and takes you to the Bay Trail that runs along the waterfront. As you get onto the trail you’ll see these whales on your left.

And see what I else I found along that trail:

I like the barnacles on their skin — this seems to be a particularly realistic mural. Whales definitely are a good symbol of what needs to be saved on our planet.

Coincidentally, today my kindergartener was learning about animals laughing. 😀 So I say, you just might be right. 🙂
