Street Art from Santa Monica – III

A Santa Monica mural from Santa Monica in Southern California. The muralist behind this piece is Ruben Rojas....

Back in the summer of 2019, we were out in the Venice Beach and Santa Monica areas in Southern CA. And on our way back south from Santa Monica Beach, we drove past this Santa Monica mural by Ruben Rojas.

It had ‘Santa Monica’ written on it and also featured several of the things that help characterize this area in the Southern part of sunny California. There were palms, a lifeguard tower, Santa Monica Pier and a route 66 sign, for this is where the western end of the highway lies. There were also signs of the beach, some water (of the Pacific) and surf, among other things.

This mural was done under the banner of Beautify Earth, a foundation that is into beautifying places with the help of public art. The organization works as a bridge between businesses, cities and artists to get color onto walls. And the artist of this Santa Monica mural also happens to be one of the founders of the foundation.

Rojas seems to have a lot of color in his works, such that they are reminiscent of rainbows. See if you can find a mural near you that was done by this artist — Ruben Rojas Murals.

This Santa Monica mural, which is said to be a tribute to Santa Monica, can be found on Olympic Boulevard and Viking Way (if it is still up, that is). You might also be able to see it from Santa Monica Freeway (10) near here.

Another piece of street art that I came across near it was this one below that had ‘California Dreaming’ written beside it. I have not been able to find more information on this one.

Happy colors! No ferris wheel for me, but the beach I´d love to see for real.
