Stanford University

We’ve all heard of that prestigious institution called Stanford University. Some years back I visited the campus TWICE and I don’t know how β€” it just never went up on the blog although the Stanford Church and a mural I came across there did get posted up here. Anyway, I guess now is the time for a quick photo tour of the coveted university in Northern California.

Stanford University is situated in Stanford, CA just next to Palo Alto, CA on the San Francisco Peninsula. The most striking aspect of the university is the architecture of the original buildings. Stately and handsome, the tan structures with crowned with red tiles, the long corridors flanked by arches and the wide-open courtyards are a sight to see.

The Oval and Hoover Tower

The Oval is a large green patch of lawn surrounded by flowering plants that you’re going to see before you get into the Main Quad.

Also visible from here is the Hoover Tower, which deserves a post of its own. πŸ˜‰

The Main Quad

The first place I recommend you see is the Main Quadrangle of the school, at the very heart of the campus. Here you will see some of its signature architecture, some sculptures and the awe-inspiring Stanford Memorial Church.

There should be no missing a walk through those hallways that lead you to other parts around the quad.

Stanford University

Did you know: Stanford University is officially called Leland Stanford Junior University?

Stanford University, known for its groundbreaking inventions and being the alma mater of many world-famous figures was founded in 1885. It owes its beginnings to a famous family called β€”obviously β€” The Stanfords. Leland Standford who was into the railroad business and who would also become a senator and governor of California, and his wife Jane Stanford were the founders. The institution was set up as a memorial to their son Leland Stanford Jr. who lost his life to typhoid, in the early 1880s.
