Venice’s Canal on a wall in Vegas

Grand Canal mural, The Venetian, Las Vegas

The Venetian in Las Vegas, as its name suggests is a Venice-themed resort and casino. It’s got everything from Italian art, the kind of architecture you would find in Venice and even Grand Canal with Gondolas and Gondoliers and all. Before I show you the ceiling frescos and the Grand Canal let me show you a canal mural from The Venetian.

I found this canal mural on the outside of The Venetian — near Doge’s Palace. In it, you can see the canal and the historical buildings on the banks of the canal.

And do you see the bridge above it? That, if I’m not mistaken is a replica of the Bridge of Sighs the historical bridge that connects the Duke’s Palace (Doge’s Palace) to the Doge’s Palace prison on the other side of the canal. So the canal in the mural must be the one that is supposed to be behind the real Doge’s Palace in Venice, Italy.

A bit about the real Bridge of Sighs in Venice Italy: The people who were sent to prison are said to have been used to stopping at the windows on the bridge, looking out at the scenery outside (the canal and a bit of Venice that they could see) and ‘sighing’ before they were led into the prison.

    1. It does. And there are some great frescoes inside the resort. Can’t wait to share it with you guys for Monday Mural.
Thank you for hosting, Sami. 🙂

    1. This one, if I remember correctly is near the fountain and bridge on the Las Vegas Boulevard side. (Near the Doge’s Palace)

      Isn’t The Venetian an amazing work-of-art? 🙂

    1. Wait, there are so many, many more replicas of the real Venice, here in Vegas. Wait till you see them all. 🙂
