Venice — the one in Southern California — might have gotten its name from the canals there. However, these days, it is also known for its bohemian spirit and its public art. There’s plenty of street art (and graffiti) all over the neighbourhood. Among them are a few Venice Murals or the murals on Venice, itself.
You might remember the ‘Venice of America’ mural that was featured here on this blog a few weeks ago. In case you missed that mural in the famous canal district, you can see it here — Venice of America mural. The post also features a larger-than-life painting of the man who envisioned a Venice for the United States.
Today’s first work-of-art is an enormous one, found close to Venice Beach. If I remember correctly, it lies at Speedway and Windward Avenue (near the Ocean Front Walk, better known as the Venice Beach Boardwalk).
You might have gotten a glimpse of it in the post on Venice Beach. The mural is called Venice Kinesis. And it is a depiction of the spirit of Venice. This mural by Rip Cronk (2010) is supposed to be a restoration of ‘Venice Constituted’ 1989 – a mural from that year that was up on this wall, earlier.
My understanding is that when the muralist came by to touch up the wall, he further increased the size of his art and went on to incorporate present-day Venice in the mural.

After we spent the evening experiencing the energy and spirit of Venice Beach, (this is not just another beach. Read about this place here — The Very Vibrant Venice Beach) I spotted this other mural that looked like an image of Venice of a bygone era.
