The Almond Orchards Are In Blossom!

When is a good time to see some Almond Blossoms in California? Late February and early March is when the almond trees bloom. Here are a few pictures of...

It’s that time of the year again. Winter showers have turned the rolling east-bay hills as well as California’s Central Valley a RICH green. The days are getting longer. And wildflowers and fruit blossoms are here!

Several farms around Tracy are now growing almonds and the young trees with their pale-pink blossoms have become quite an attraction in The Valley.

Visit this part of the valley and you are sure to see neat rows of dark brown trees with what looks like light pink clouds on them.

All of last week, I’d been driving past these fruit blossoms. And all week long, those hands on the wheel have been itching to take a few pictures of the pretty sight. As I couldn’t stop to do that, I had been looking forward to the weekend. I’d been waiting for the hubby’s return from his business trip so that I could ask him to take me for a drive around there and I could take a few pictures.

But then, it poured all night Friday and into Saturday and I was worried the rain and wind would take down all those almond blossoms which even otherwise don’t last very long.

On Saturday, when the showers took a break, we stepped out. It was a grey day and the sights looked a bit dull but I managed a few cell phone pictures during the drive. The fruit trees had lost some flowers and the petals that had made a white carpet on the floor had been washed away too.

[…] The first signs of spring appear in California’s San Joaquin Valley when its many almond trees begin flowering. That is usually around mid-February. They are like natures Valentine’s day flowers for us. The picture above is a cell phone shot from a quick trip to Modesto, California. It wasn’t exactly a pleasure trip but the sight sure brought some pleasure. If you’ve been following the blog for some time you might remember seeing a post from 2019 when I had put together pictures from a few drives around the northern San Joaquin Valley. If not, no worries, you can always go back and see those pretty sights of trees crowned with clouds of white blossoms. Here’s that post β€”> The Almond Orchards are in Bloom! […]
